PUNO

The city of Puno lies in the south of Peru and at the shore of Lake Titicaca, one of the largest lakes in South America and the highest navigable lake in the world.
Puno is also considered the capital of Peruvian folklore due to its more than 350 dances that combine ancestral traditions and fusion of cultures, expressed through music and art particularly on the festival for the Virgin of Candles (“Virgen de la Candelaria”).

WHAT TO SEE

Puno Cathedral

Open Wednesday to Monday between 8 am – 12 pm and 3 pm – 5 pm, closed on Tuesday. The cathedral is in the Andean Baroque architectural tradition, built in 1757 and declared as cultural heritage of Peru.

Casa del Corregidor

Jr. Deustua 576, open Monday to Saturday between 9 am – 9 pm. This is one of the oldest colonial houses in Puno, built in the traditional architecture style of the city. Today, it is used as a cultural center and a café bar.

Carlos Dreyer Museum

Carlos Dreyer Jr. Conde de Lemos 289. Open Monday to Friday between 9 am – 7 pm, and Saturday between 9 am – 1 pm. The museum exhibits ceramic, silver and gold pieces, as well as textiles and sculptures of Inca, pre-Inca, colonial and republican origin. It also exhibits a collection of old coins and documents about the foundation of the city.
